Opening a bank account in Kazakhstan remotely does not require a large number of documents. In most cases, all you need is a foreign passport, a local Kazakhstani mobile number, and an IIN (Individual Identification Number). You must also provide a document confirming legal entry into Kazakhstan. Generally, the required documents can be summarized as follows:
- A mobile phone number from a Kazakhstani mobile operator — this is important because it is entered into the system and used for “identifying” the account holder, as well as for authorizing banking operations. We recommend using a dedicated phone for this purpose. You can purchase a SIM card with a plan that does not require a monthly fee.
- A foreign passport with an entry stamp into the Republic of Kazakhstan, if your stay is less than 30 days. This is usually sufficient for signing a contract with the bank.
- IIN – Individual Identification Number. This is typically required in printed form. Instructions on how to obtain an IIN are provided below.
- Proof of legal stay in Kazakhstan. If you are working or studying, or in any other case where you are staying in Kazakhstan for an extended period, you must present a document confirming your legal status.
